FROM LONDON TO TENERIFE
ABOUT ME
From making clothes for my Barbie dolls out of scraps of leftover fabric to creating my own magazines using cut-outs from the Argos catalogue, it was clear from an early age that fashion and journalism were going to be my lifelong passions.
When the internet arrived, I spent hours creating makeshift websites which later became a full-time job once Blogger, the blogging platform launched and I was old enough to venture up to London by myself to interview young and upcoming designers. The rest, as they say, is history.
Timeline
2010
THE LAUNCH OF MODA DE LA MODE BLOG
Back when I was 17, I discovered the Estonian fashion blogger Anni Jürgenson and her blog “Style Hurricane”. Her fashion DIY- projects and street style looks sparked my imagination and inspired me to write a blog of my own. Welcome Moda de la Mode- my fashion blog dedicated to promoting young designers fresh out of fashion school.
2013
MODA DE LA MODE MAGAZINE
100s of blog posts later, I decided that it was time to take Moda de la Mode and launch a print edition of the blog. The first edition of the magazine was launched, followed by a second and a third. Launch parties in central London put Moda de la Mode in the limelight.
2013
LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION
It was also in 2013 that I enrolled in a BA Hons degree at UAL’s London College of Fashion. To walk down the same corridors as fashion icons like Jimmy Choo, Erin O’Connor and William Tempest felt like a dream come true.
2014
INTERNATIONAL FASHION WEEKS
My whole world evolved around the fashion week circuits with designers like Burberry, DKNY and Jimmy Choo inviting me to cover their shows for Moda de la Mode magazine. When not attending fashion week or university I worked… ALL THE TIME! Whether sat front desk at Windle & Moodie hair salon, behind the bar at Wild Card Brewery or assisting stylists on fashion shoots for brands like H&M and YSL Beauty, I was living and breathing fashion.
2015
GRADUATION
So much work had taken its toll and while I graduated with a 1st class BA Hons degree in Fashion Journalism from LCF, my heart was no longer in London or the fashion industry. So, I packed up my suitcase and travelled to Latin America where I spent weeks on end immersed in the chaotic, colourful culture of Mexico, Bolivia and Peru. I didn’t want to come home.
2016
RELOCATING TO TENERIFE
Of course, reality bites and I had to return to the real world. Yet, I missed the vibrant, laid-back lifestyle of Latin America and the grey skies of London were not going to cut it. After a painful year applying for jobs in Tenerife, I finally hopped on a plane to begin working as the director of Marketing for Bodegas Monje in Tenerife.
2018
GOING FREELANCE
Life at the winery was as idyllic as you can imagine it to be. After two years of working alongside a group of people who had grown to become my adoptive family I made the scariest decision of my expat life – to become a freelancer, or autónoma as it is called here in Spain.
2023
GRACE MOLAN STUDIOS IS BORN
Between cutting. my teeth at a New York-based Digital Marketing agency, establishing my own client base on the side and moving house a gazillion times, I decided to launch a boutique content agency: Grace Molan Studios. Today I work as a copywriter and freelance journalist in the comfort of my hilltop office overlooking both the mountains and the sea. It is pure bliss!
